Brigid Bazlen in "King of Kings"

Merry Christmas, everybody!  We're watching King of Kings (1961) on Turner Classic Movies.  Salome, portrayed by the lovely Brigid Bazlen, just did her famous dance.  Very vintage belly dance stuff.

I apologize for the subpar quality of this video, but it was the best one I could find.  Yuletide shimmies to you!

Diane Webber

Got another DVD today, The Mermaids of Tiburon (1962), mostly because I love mermaids.  It wasn't very good at all.  However, the star mermaid (one of the few with a fish tail - I thought all mermaids had fish tails...?) was played by Diane Webber.  In addition to being a leading figure model of the era, she was also a belly dancer and founded the Perfumes of Araby troupe.  They danced at many a Renaissance Pleasure Fair in the 70's.  I wonder if there is any extant video of her dancing?  Sadly, she passed away in 2008.

PS:  The heavy in Mermaids is played by the fantabulous Timothy Carey, whom I would marry in five seconds.

Hulya Babus

I got my DVD of Countess Dracula (1971) today (RIP the marvelous Ingrid Pitt!), and was pleased to discover it includes a short but very nice bellydancing scene featuring the wonderful Turkish dancer Hulya Babus.

EDIT: Video has been disabled. Phooey. You can, however, download the entire film here.
